FERRYSBURG — Mayor Rebecca Hopp took some heat during last year’s election for her political aspirations and her work with the Michigan Municipal League, but she's become a key player in helping to reinvent that organization's Michigan Women in Municipal Government branch.

“We want to empower women in government and encourage students to enter the profession,” said Hopp, who serves as president of Michigan Women in Municipal Government. “Our goal is to provide them with the resources and support they need to be successful throughout their career.”

The changes include more training opportunities, a supportive mentoring program and more involvement with students who are interested in serving in government. Michigan Women in Municipal Government also has its first-ever website to increase visibility and awareness. The site features an updated logo and information tailored to its audience. Visitors can learn about the organization's goals, events and training opportunities, and even find other Michigan Women in Municipal Government members through a map element.

“We want to be the go-to source for women at all stages of their government career,” Hopp said.
